Myth: More Sweat Means a Better Workout
People often assume that the more they sweat, the better the workout and the more calories they burn.
Sweating is the body’s natural cooling mechanism and doesn’t necessarily correlate with workout intensity or calorie burn. Factors like temperature, humidity, and individual physiology impact sweat levels. For instance, someone might sweat heavily in a hot yoga session but burn fewer calories than during a low-sweat strength training workout. Intensity, heart rate, and duration are better indicators of workout quality than sweat alone. Sweating is beneficial for thermoregulation, but it’s not a measure of fitness progress or effectiveness.
