The laws given at Mount Sinai were a foundational aspect of this covenant, providing a framework for communal and personal conduct, worship, and social justice. Prophets frequently reminded Israel of their calling, urging them to uphold righteousness and be faithful to God. Israel’s journey, as depicted in the Bible, is filled with triumphs and failures that highlight human frailty but also God’s steadfastness. Ultimately, Israel’s role was to prepare the way for a global understanding of God, an invitation that extended beyond its borders. In Christian theology, this covenantal purpose is seen as fulfilled through Jesus Christ, who Christians believe extended God’s promises to all people.
